Symmetry™ Data Management
Safe in the Knowledge of Effective Data Management at All Levels
Our
Security Management System (SMS) Software uses some of the most advanced data
management techniques currently available to security management systems. It uses
effective data management at all levels to ensure that the system is fast, flexible,
open and secure.
Data Partitioning
A key feature of our security management system is its ability to be used in buildings
occupied by more than one company. The system allows data such as card details,
access rights, readers, monitor points and other hardware devices to be allocated
to different companies, with each company’s data kept private. This can give:
- Enhanced installation flexibility
- Reduced hardware, software and maintenance costs
- Lower staff costs through centralized alarm management
- Easy reconfiguration – no rewiring is required if readers, etc. are assigned to
different companies
Data Engine
At the heart of all our security management systems is the Microsoft® SQL Server
data management engine, providing high levels of performance and scalability. Symmetry Business
and Symmetry Professional use the freely available MSDE version, while Symmetry Enterprise
and Symmetry Global use the full SQL Server product, which is able to manage larger
amounts of data.
Data Integration - “Openness”
“Open Integration” options are available for card data import, card data export,
XML Open Integration Module and BACnet® support. These options enable you to closely
integrate the system with other third-party products.
Data Security
Features such as user log-ons, backup and archive tools, encrypted communications
and supervised reader communications ensure that the security of the data within
the Security Management System is maintained at all levels.
Data Clustering
Symmetry Global and Symmetry Enterprise support optional “clustering”, which consists
of two independent servers sharing a common database storage device. If one server
fails or is shut down for maintenance, the other assumes control to provide continuous
operation.
Data in Global Edition Systems
Symmetry Global consists of a network of independent regional servers, each with
its own database. Card holders can be defined centrally, assigned to one or more
sites and then automatically imported to each site. This facility provides the ideal
solution when persons require access to more than one site. Symmetry Global gives
ultimate resilience, since any failure of the corporate network allows autonomous
regional systems to continue operating fully at a local level.
Key Features
- The system uses the SQL Server or MSDE data engine for high performance and scalability
- The ability to partition the database provides a single system to multiple users
for autonomous control, cost savings, and installation flexibility
- Open integration options enable close integration with other third-party systems
- Security of data is maintained at all levels, from user logons to supervised reader
communications
- Optional clustering provides uninterrupted operation and access to data for mission-critical
systems
- Global Edition provides centralized card management, but enables autonomous operation
of each regional system
